Training and Development in Organisation

Employees are very important asset of any company. Therefore, investing in their training and development is key to sustaining business growth and success. This commitment makes sense when you consider the lengthy processes businesses carry out to recruit and hire qualified staff. In most cases a well-designed training programme can be linked to improvements in business results and that return on investment in training programmes is very high. (Armstrong,2014,p286).

Training and development makes employees more productive and effective. It is actively and intimately related to all the personnel or managerial activities. It is an integral part of the whole management program with all its many activities functionally inter-related Training and development is also important for any organization that wants to take advantage of changes, techniques and improvements.(Bishoni,Importance of Training and Development).

Dedicated training and development fosters employee engagement, and a more efficient, competitive, and engaged workforce is critical to the company’s financial performance. Furthermore, 93% of employees will stay longer when a company invests in career development.(Ottawa University,2021)

Current Challenges which need to be resolved through Training and Development (Gyrus,2022)

  • Improving learning experience
  • Promoting soft skills
  • Developing leadership value
  • Applying the interactive training method
  • Soliciting genuine feedback
  • Employee roadblocks
  • Changes in organization
  • Technical changes
  • Leaners engagement
  • Managing conflict

Conclusion

In conclusion, due to the many challenges facing human resource departments, organizations need to adopt correct and workable policies that will not only alleviate these challenges but also develop mechanisms to deal with them in the future. When a person is selected for a new job, the HR department initially arranges a training program that will help bring him up to the expected speed and an organization plan to help employees develop their abilities, skills, and knowledge. There are around 80,000 companies in the private sector in Sri Lanka, and all HR departments of these companies have to face a lot of challenges to provide the required training and development as most of the companies have cut down their training and development budgets in order to reduce their cost factors to rebuild their companies, which are highly affected by the COVID pandemic situation and the current crisis situation. On the other hand, HR departments have to increase their workload for trainings as most of the experienced staff turnover is very high with the current crisis situation, and HR departments have to work hard for recruitment, training, and staff development to get the maximum productivity from the newly recruited staff to drive the organization toward the expected goals with better profits.
